About 7th St Entry

The building that now houses 7th St Entry was built in 1937 as a Greyhound bus depot. The Art Deco-style building was advanced for its time, with unusual modern amenities not often found in public buildings, like shower rooms, public telephones, and air conditioning. It served as a transit hub for the area until 1968, when the depot was relocated.7

The building was purchased in 1970 by a member of a local family, Allan Fingerhut, who owned and operated commercial buildings. Along with the frontman of a local rock band, Danny Stevens, Fingerhut converted the main space of the bus depot into a nightclub. It operated as The Depot, a nightclub known for its live rock and roll music, until 1981, when it was renamed First Avenue. As First Avenue, the venue hosted iconic acts of the time, including U2, R.E.M, and Nirvana.7

In 1980, the bus depot’s former cafeteria became a second, more intimate venue, called 7th St Entry.7
