About Chicago Sky
Chicago Sky
In 2006, the Chicago Sky brought women’s basketball to the Windy City, becoming the first WNBA franchise based in Chicago.1 The Sky entered a city already defined by championship banners and packed arenas, bringing professional women’s basketball to one of America’s most competitive sports markets. Since 2018, the team has played its home games at Wintrust Arena in Chicago’s South Loop.1
The franchise’s name draws on Chicago’s skyline, linking the team directly to the city’s towering architecture and wide-open lakefront.1 At Wintrust Arena, the seating keeps fans close enough to hear every call and feel every defensive stop.

History of the Chicago Sky
The Chicago Sky entered the WNBA in 2006 as an expansion franchise. In their early years, the team worked to establish consistency in the Eastern Conference before breaking through with postseason appearances later.1
In 2021, the Sky defeated the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA Finals to capture the franchise’s first WNBA Championship, completing a climb from expansion team to title winner.2 With that win, the Sky became both the lowest seeded team and the first team without a winning record to win a WNBA championship.8 Kahleah Copper earned the Finals MVP honor after averaging 17.7 points per game in the 2021 WNBA Playoffs.
The Chicago Sky continue to strive for postseason greatness after their 2021 title, though recent seasons have seen shifting rosters and coaching staff lineups.
Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena
Wintrust Arena opened in 2017 as part of the McCormick Square development and seats about 10,387 fans for basketball games.3,4 Located in the South Loop near downtown Chicago, the arena hosts Chicago Sky games alongside DePaul University Men’s Basketball.3
The arena’s lower seating configuration keeps fans tight to the hardwood, sending the energy through the roof during late-game runs.3 Meanwhile, the arena’s suites, premium seating areas, and club spaces offer upgraded hospitality experiences.4
