Chicago Cubs
The Chicago Cubs are one of Major League Baseball’s most historic teams, based in Chicago, Illinois.
As one of the oldest teams in the league, the Cubs are easily recognized by their classic red “C” logo as well as their dedicated legion of fans. The Cubs play at Wrigley Field, the second-oldest ballpark in MLB known for its ivy-covered outfield, engaged fan culture, and lively surrounding neighborhood, Wrigleyville.

History of the Chicago Cubs
Known first as the White Stockings, the team joined the National League in 1876.1 By 1902, the White Stockings were renamed the Colts and later, the Orphans. The Cubs' name became official in 1907 after The Chicago Daily News consistently referred to the team as the Cubs because of the collective youth of its players. In the late nineteenth century, the team bounced around between different ballparks before finding their home at the West Side Grounds, where they played from 1893 until 1915.2
The team experienced their most successful decade at the turn of the twentieth century. In 1906, the Cubs held the all-time Major League records for wins in a season (116) and winning percentage (.736). The Cubs won back-to-back World Series in 1907 and 1908, beating the Detroit Tigers twice, and rounded out the decade winning four National League Pennants (1906, 1907, 1908, 1910).
More recently, the Cubs won the 2016 World Series title, beating the Cleveland Indians, 8-7, and cementing themselves as a comeback team.3
Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field
Wrigley Field has been the home of the Chicago Cubs for over a century. The field was built in 1914 and is the second-oldest ballpark in MLB behind Boston’s Fenway Park.4 It was originally known as Weeghman Park before its renaming as Wrigley Field in 1926. The outfield walls are known for their greenery, which comes from vines originally purchased and planted in 1937.
Wrigley Field has undergone numerous renovations over the years to enhance the fan experience. In 1988, the field added lights, and by 1995, the stadium had 63 private boxes. The most recent upgrade, known as the 1060 Project, was a multi-year endeavor that provided improvements in structural integrity, player facilities, fan amenities, premier clubs, media connectivity, and more.4
Another unique feature of Wrigley Field is its location within Wrigleyville, which features myriad sports bars, souvenir stalls, and restaurants.5
