About The Riverside Theater
The Riverside Theater has seen a wide range of uses over its nearly 100-year history. When it opened in 1928, it hosted carnival acts, including bicycle-riding bears and the World’s Tallest Man. In the 1930s, the venue began hosting popular dance bands, film stars, comedians, and other live acts. It became Milwaukee’s premier theater for orchestra shows as well, hosting some of the biggest musical names of the time period.4
In 1958, the Riverside Theatre made history as the first venue on Wisconsin Avenue to host a rock-and-roll show. Artists like Aretha Franklin, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, and Edgar Winter would grace the stage at what was rapidly becoming one of Milwaukee’s most iconic venues.4
