About Webster Hall

Webster Hall was constructed in 1886, designed by Charles Rentz, Jr., in a richly detailed Queen Anne style with a mansard roof, and later expanded in Renaissance Revival fashion in 1892.9,10,11 From its earliest days, it became a hub for the labor rallies, masquerade balls, and political activism that shaped Lower Manhattan’s social landscape.10

In the 1950s and ’60s, Webster Hall served as RCA’s East Coast recording studio — legendary artists like Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Julie Andrews, Tony Bennett, and a young Bob Dylan all recorded iconic works on its Grand Ballroom stage.4,11 Reborn in 1980 as The Ritz, it hosted U2’s first U.S. performance, along with icons like Tina Turner, Prince, Eric Clapton, and Guns N’ Roses.4,11

To keep pace with modern entertainment standards and elevate guest experiences, Webster Hall underwent significant renovations, which were completed in 2019. These updates included the installation of the venue’s first elevator, additional stairwells, restroom upgrades, air conditioning, and, of course, improved acoustics.11
