About Climate Pledge Arena

Originally built for the 1962 World’s Fair, the Washington State Pavilion was designed by innovative architect Paul Thiry.5 Its distinctive aluminum roof, shaped in a striking hyperbolic parabola, quickly became an architectural icon of Seattle’s skyline. After the World’s Fair, it was renamed the Washington State Coliseum and converted into an 18,500-seat sports arena and convention center, hosting major cultural and athletic events for decades.5

In 2021, following a $1.15 billion redevelopment, the venue was reborn as Climate Pledge Arena.1,6 The renovation preserved Thiry’s landmark roof while integrating cutting-edge sustainability features. Over the years, the venue welcomed legendary performers such as the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.7,8 The rejuvenated arena continues in this trend, having hosted stellar acts such as Coldplay, Madonna, Pearl Jam, and Dave Matthews Band.9,10 The arena has also been the proud home of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken and the WNBA’s Seattle Storm since 2021.
