History of the Colorado Avalanche

The Avalanche (known by fans as “The Avs”) began as the Quebec Nordiques before relocating to Denver in 1995, shifting the franchise into a new market and marking a major turning point for the organization.1,2

The Avs won the Stanley Cup in their first season in Denver, 1996, then added another championship in 2001.1,2 A third Cup arrived in 2022, reinforcing the long-standing expectations built over decades.1

In both Quebec and Colorado, the team’s path stayed defined by elite talent, consistent coaching, and postseason goals that carried from one era to the next.1,2

Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena

The Av’s Ball Arena sits just outside downtown Denver and is built so that most seating angles keep the ice in view. It holds 17,809 fans for hockey, a size that keeps the building loud while still giving each section a clear line to the rink.3

Wide concourses and open walkways make it easy to move around without missing the pace on the ice, and the bowl is shaped to pull the sound in tight. The arena also offers 95 luxury suites that can accommodate up to 16 fans each.3

As the shared home of the Colorado Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets, Ball Arena was built to handle high-energy nights.3
