History of the Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks began as the Tri-Cities Blackhawks in 1946, joining the NBA after the NBL merger and eventually settling in St. Louis before moving to Atlanta in 1968.
After relocating, the team found its stride in the 1980s, drafting ball-of-fire Dominique Wilkins, the “Human Highlight Film,” whose soaring clutch moments became the franchise’s signature.
Their only NBA Championship came in 1958, when the team played for St. Louis, and while they have not won a title since, the Hawks continue to honor that legacy.2
