Pittsburgh Penguins

"Let's Go, Pens!" Join a chanting crowd at PPG Paints Arena as the Pittsburgh Penguins flock onto the ice. The stadium in downtown Pittsburgh — just off of Centre Avenue and Washington Place — comes alive with the Penguins’ trademark speed, grit, and long tradition in the Steel City.

At the game, look above you to see multiple Stanley Cup banners hanging overhead in the stadium. That’s just a hint at the Pittsburgh Penguins’ storied history in the National Hockey League (NHL). And you can be a part of their next storied chapter by purchasing your Pittsburgh Penguins tickets from AXS today!

History of the Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins got their start in 1967 during an NHL expansion era. While penguins are obviously not native to Pittsburgh, the team was named after their original home stadium (Mellon Arena) which looked like an igloo.1

After some early struggles on the rink, the franchise surged in the 1990s. Legends like right-winger Jaromír Jágr and team captain Mario Lemieux led them to their first Stanley Cup championship in 1991. Their winning streak continued in the 2000s, making them a fixture in Steel City’s professional hockey legacy.1
