Alingsås HK was founded in 1973, and Christer Mårtensson, who later became the club’s sporting director and partner manager, joined in the mid-1970s.² The men’s team first reached Sweden’s top division in 1998, and after returning to the second-highest division, earned promotion again in 2005. That promotion marked the beginning of the club’s rise as a leading team in Swedish handball.

Four years later, Alingsås won its first Swedish Championship at Globen on May 9, 2009.² The club followed that breakthrough with another Swedish title in 2014, when Alingsås defeated Lugi 24-22 in the final.³ Those two titles secured Alingsås HK’s place among Sweden’s modern-era champions.⁴
