Born in the Long Island suburb of Jericho, New York, Madison Beer began posting covers on YouTube at age 13. When Justin Bieber shared her rendition of Etta James's At Last with his millions of Twitter followers in 2012, it sent the song trending worldwide overnight.²

That exposure led to a deal with Island Def Jam Records and her debut single Melodies in 2013.² After parting with her record label, Beer was granted full creative freedom, resulting in her 2018 debut EP As She Pleases, making her the first independent female solo artist to chart on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 without a major label.²
