Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Zakir Khan grew up in a Rajasthani Muslim family with a centuries-old musical heritage – his grandfather, Ustad Moinuddin Khan, was a celebrated sarangi maestro.³

After dropping out of a Bachelor of Commerce program, he pursued a diploma in sitar performance, then relocated to Delhi to work in a more creative industry.³
