Los Angeles Angels
The Los Angeles Angels are a west coast-based Major League Baseball (MLB) team with a franchise history shaped by standout players and championship moments. Based in Anaheim, CA, the team plays at Angel Stadium, one of the league’s long-standing ballparks.1 Angels games combine West Coast baseball traditions with a relaxed, open-air setting that reflects the region’s climate and culture.
From iconic home runs to divisional matchups, Los Angeles Angels tickets available through AXS offer fans access to MLB action in one of baseball’s most desired locations.
History of the Los Angeles Angels
Founded in 1961 as an American League expansion team, the Los Angeles Angels finished their first season with an impressive 70-91 record, the best winning percentage of any expansion team in MLB history.2 The team originally played at the now demolished Wrigley Field in Los Angeles and subsequently moved to Dodger Stadium for a brief three-year stint.2 The Angels finally settled in Anaheim in the spring of 1966.2
The franchise has competed under several name variations, including the California Angels and Anaheim Angels, before officially becoming known as the Los Angeles Angels. The Los Angeles Angels have achieved myriad accomplishments over the years, including winning their first World Series title in 2002, defeating the San Francisco Giants 4-1 in Game 7 at home.2
Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium of Anaheim
The Angels play at Angel Stadium of Anaheim, which opened on April 9, 1966.1 The original structure was reverted back to a baseball-only field. The stadium was previously named the Edison International Field of Anaheim. On December 29, 2003, the Angels renamed the stadium to Angel Stadium of Anaheim, which remains its current name today.1
With a seating capacity of more than 45,603 fans, the stadium is one of the oldest active ballparks in Major League Baseball.1 Walt Disney Imagineering served as the manager of the design and construction of the stadium.1 Its distinctive “Big A” scoreboard structure and mountain-inspired rock formation in center field contribute to a recognizable game-day backdrop.
