Berlin, Germany is known for its robust live entertainment scene. In particular, the city’s vibrant nightlife and techno music scene make it a destination for music and clubbing enthusiasts. Throughout the city, you’ll find a variety of iconic venues, ranging from jazz clubs to large rock venues to eclectic techno venues.

Some of the city’s biggest annual events include Lollapalooza Berlin, Fête de la Musique, and the Open-Air in Garten der Welt.¹ Beyond large-scale events, multiple squares throughout the city, including Alexanderplatz and East Side Gallery, are known for live performances by street musicians and other performers.²

Berlin’s long history of music and performance means the city has countless venues of all sizes and styles, offering a wide range of performances.

• Uber Arena: One of Berlin’s largest venues is Uber Arena. This multipurpose venue has seating for 17,000, and can be converted from a sports arena hosting basketball or hockey to a large music venue.³
• Columbiahalle: This historic venue was built in 1951 as a sports stadium for U.S. soldiers, but has since become a popular music venue. With space for up to 3,500 people, as well as an outdoor garden venue that opened in 2001, the venue is known for its more intimate feel compared to larger venues.⁴
• Uber Eats Music Hall: Located within Uber Platz, Uber Eats Music Hall hosts up to 4,250 guests for concerts and special events. The venue features top notch acoustics and stage production.⁵

Berlin hosts a number of unique concerts and festivals each year, spanning many different genres and musical styles.

• Lollapalooza Berlin: One of the city’s largest festivals and an international spin-off of the US Lollapalooza, Lollapalooza Berlin features global headliners across multiple genres and attracts large crowds each year to Olympiastadion.¹
• Pop-Kultur Festival: Pop-Kultur Festival is a contemporary event that features both musical and visual performances by local and international artists.¹
• Citadel Music Festival: This unique music festival brings modern, contemporary music to a historic venue. The Spandau Citadel is one of the best-preserved relics of the Renaissance in Germany, and the venue's old stone walls offer a unique contrast to the energetic, modern performances of this festival.¹

Berlin has several major sports teams that call the city home, including FC Union Berlin, Hertha BSC, Alba Berlin, and Fuchse Berlin. It also hosts sporting events featuring teams from around the world:

• Eisbaren Berlin: Eisbaren Berlin is a top-performing professional ice hockey team based in Berlin.⁸
• Alba Berlin: Alba Berlin is known as one of the most prestigious basketball clubs in European competition.⁶
• NBA Berlin: First held in 2026, the NBA came to Germany for a game at Uber Arena, and is set to return.⁷

Music and sports are far from the only events happening in Berlin. The city’s rich history has also led to a rise in incredible art shows and performances, as well as comedy shows, hosted in some of the city’s many venues:

• Tempodrom: The Tempodrom is a unique venue, resembling a circus big top but made of concrete and glass. It frequently hosts comedians, opera choirs, and other musical performances.⁹
• Quatsch Comedy Club: This popular comedy venue hosts stand-up comedy, featuring four comedians per show. The four comedians are chosen fresh each week, and put on 70-minute shows known for drawing crowds and big laughs.¹⁰
• Konzerthaus Berlin: Konzerthaus Berlin is one of the city’s most famous concert halls, and is home to the Konzerthausorchester.¹¹
