Alicia Keys, born Alicia Augello Cook, has won 17 Grammy Awards and had 32 nominations. She has a long list of accomplishments as a singer, songwriter, pianist, actress, author, and producer.^1,2

In 2001, Alicia Keys released her debut studio album, Songs In A Minor. It was a massive success, and the hit single Fallin’ sat at number 1 on the Billboard 100 chart for six weeks.³

Over the years, the artist has had other hits, including Empire State of Mind with Jay-Z, No One, and Girl on Fire. She is also the co-founder of Keep a Child Alive, an organization that supports children with HIV.^1,4

Alicia Keys was born in Manhattan in 1981. She started playing the piano at age 7 and was eventually accepted into the Professional Performance Arts School of Manhattan.

When she was 15, her music was already in high demand as record labels tried to secure a deal. She initially went with Columbia Records, but it wasn’t a good fit, and this led her to J Records (RCA Records).

When her debut album, Songs in A Minor, was released in 2001, Alicia Keys’ career skyrocketed. This album won five Grammy awards and sold six million copies. Since then, she has released other popular albums, including The Diary of Alicia Keys, The Element of Freedom, and As I Am.^3,5

Alicia Keys writes her own songs, and she has worked closely with other artists, too. Some of the artists she has collaborated with are Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, and Mario.⁶

• Grammy Winner - Best R&B Album (2014): Alicia Keys has won a total of 17 Grammy awards, including Best R&B Album for the Girl on Fire album.
• BET Awards - Humanitarian Award (2009): The singer won the award from Black Entertainment Television in honor of her charity work.
• Teen Choice Awards - Choice Album (2002): Alicia Keys won the Music - Choice Album award for her breakout album, Songs in A Minor.⁷

• No One (2007): No One was number 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart for two weeks. The song spent 36 weeks on this chart.⁴
