About Busch Stadium
Opened in 2006, the current Busch Stadium is the third St. Louis Cardinals ballpark venue to carry the Busch name, reflecting more than a century of baseball history in the city.1 The legacy began at Sportsman’s Park, which became Busch Stadium in 1953 after Anheuser-Busch purchased the Cardinals. In 1966, the team moved downtown to Busch Memorial Stadium, a multipurpose venue that hosted the Cardinals for four decades.
Portions of that stadium were demolished in phases, allowing the present Busch Stadium to be constructed on the same site while games continued nearby. Designed to blend modern stadium features with retro ballpark elements, the classic red-brick stadium quickly became famous for its open sightlines and a nostalgic manual scoreboard.6
Busch Stadium hosted the 80th MLB All-Star Game in 2009 and two World Series Championships in 2006 and 2011, both of which ended with championship victories for the Cardinals.7 In addition to baseball milestones, the stadium has welcomed major concert tours by artists such as Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, Luke Bryan, and Post Malone.8,9,10,11 Over the years, incremental upgrades have enhanced fan amenities while preserving the venue’s original character and historic significance.
