The venue originally opened in 2007 and has since built a strong reputation for live music, club nights, creative events, and cultural programming. The venue has hosted a wide variety of artists and creatives, pairing an industrial setting with a flexible performance space that reflects Shoreditch’s creative personality. About Village Underground
Village Underground opened in 2006 as an independent, non-profit creative space featuring affordable studio spaces for playwrights, filmmakers, architects, photographers, and other creatives.1
In 2007, Village Underground opened their venue space within a renovated Victorian warehouse that used to be a coal store for the railway, and is easily recognisable for its two hollowed-out Jubilee line carriages placed on the roof.1
Over time, Village Underground has become known for concerts, club nights, exhibitions, and creative programming that reflect Shoreditch’s wider artistic community. Its warehouse setting, flexible floor, and emphasis on independent artistry have made it a long-running part of London’s underground music landscape. Larger artists such as Alicia Keys and James Blake have also made appearances here.6
