About Royal Albert Hall
The Royal Albert Hall first served as a home for political reformer William Wilberforce and was known as the Gore Estate. Royal Albert Hall officially opened in 1871 as part of Prince Albert’s vision for a cultural and scientific district in South Kensington.9 Its distinctive elliptical design, vast glass-and-wrought-iron dome, and terracotta frieze made it one of Victorian Britain’s most ambitious public buildings.9
Over the decades, it has hosted everything from the BBC Proms to boxing, film premieres, state occasions, and performances by artists including Adele, Jimi Hendrix, and Pink Floyd.10 Major modernisation works from the late 1990s into the early 2000s improved access, backstage facilities, bars, and foyers while preserving the Hall’s historic character.10
