Anastacia

Anastacia sings with the kind of voice that cuts through a track straight away. The Chicago-born artist built her career on a blend of soul, pop, and rock so distinctive that she gave it its own name: “Sprock”.1,2

With more than 30 million records sold worldwide, her music is known for huge choruses, straight-talking emotion, and a voice with real grit.1,2 Even when the production gets big, the songs still sound unmistakably like her.1,2

Anastacia’s Background

Anastacia Lyn Newkirk was born in Chicago on 17 September 1968 into a show business family, with a Broadway actress mother and a singer father.2 She moved to New York as a child, and her early route into entertainment included dance work before music took over.2

Her breakthrough came after appearing on The Cut, an MTV talent show that brought her to a much wider audience.1,2 That led to her debut album, Not That Kind, in 2000, and the first songs that put her name on the map.1,2 Her early success came through a voice that sounded heavier, rougher, and more soulful than much of the pop around her at the time.1,2
