Knowing venue policies before arrival can help you prepare for a smoother experience at the gate.

• Re-Entry & Smoking: Guests are not allowed back in after they leave the venue.⁴ A designated area for smoking is available.⁴
• Payment Options: Both cash and card payments are accepted.⁴
• Prohibited Items: Backpacks, weapons of any kind, cans or glass bottles, professional cameras, audio recording equipment, video cameras (other than cell phones), and laser pointers are not allowed inside the venue.⁴ Refer to the policy page for more information.

• Iowa State Fairgrounds: Set on hundreds of acres in Des Moines, the Richard O. Jacobson Exhibition Center can accommodate 3,300 attendees for anything from concerts and sports events to livestock and tradeshows.⁵
• Wooly’s: An intimate venue with space for up to about 680 visitors in the heart of Des Moines, this venue welcomes diverse acts by a variety of musicians.⁶
• Peoria Civic Center: If you find yourself across state lines in Illinois, you may want to check out the 11,300-seat arena for an unforgettable entertainment, business, or cultural experience.^7,8

Val Air Ballroom is accessible by bus or car, and you can park on-site if spots are available.

Public Transportation: The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) serves the area.⁹ You can take the bus to West Des Moines from downtown and nearby areas, but expect up to a mile walk from the nearest stop to the venue.^9,10

Driving: Val Air Ballroom is located at 301 Ashworth Rd. There is ample parking available on-site. To park on-site, be sure to bring a card to pay for cashless parking.⁴

Val Air Ballroom offers a full bar with a range of drink options, including water, beer, spirits, and soft drinks. The bar serves both cash and card payments. Food options include classic concession items like soft pretzels, pizza, and other snacks, with availability that may vary by event. If you want a more filling meal, you can head to the lower level, where additional dining options are available before or after the show.⁴

Val Air Ballroom first opened in 1939 as an outdoor dance hall and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.¹¹ Its neon exterior keeps a vintage look, while a 2024 renovation upgraded the acoustics inside for a more modern sound experience and ideal venue for music, dancing, and more.^1,11 Some notable artists who have performed at the venue throughout the years include 311, Ted Nugent, Rick Springfield, The Game, and The Black Crowes.³
