RECORDING CAREER: 

Lee began his career with Sun Records while attending Memphis State University. In 1961 he signed with Smash Records where enjoyed a number of hit singles. From 1970 to 1980 Lee recorded for RCA Records as one of that labels top country artists. 

CHART ACTIVITY:

Lee achieved two top ten hits on Smash Records: PATCHES and I SAW LINDA YESTERDAY (also co-written by Lee) and a top fifteen on Twentieth Century Fox Records: LAURIE (STRANGE THINGS HAPPEN IN THIS WORLD). Lee"s RCA career produced four number one singles: 9,999,999 TEARS; ANGELS, ROSES AND RAIN; ROCKY and NEVER ENDING SONG OF LOVE as well as many others in the top 5-20 range. 

PRODUCTION CAREER:

Lee's talents are not limited to preforming and writing. He has had success in both production and publishing starting with Phillips Recording in Memphis. During the late 60's Lee co-produced a top ten po single for the group which he discovered, THE SMOKE RING on Buddah Records entitled NO NOT MUCH

SONGWRITING CAREER: 

Lee really began concentrating on the songwriting aspect of the music industry in the mid 1970's. Since 1975 he has been one of the top writers in Nashville with ten number one country hits to his credit. SHE THINKS I STILL CARE (Gerorge Jones, Anne Murray, Elevis Presley), THE DOOR IS ALWAYS OPEN (Dave & Sugar), YOU'RE THE FIRST TIME I'VE THOUGHT ABOUT LEAVING (Reba McEntire), I'LL BE LEAVING ALONE (Charley Pride), LET'S FALL TO PIECES TOGETHER (George Strait), I'VE BEEN AROUND ENOUGH TO KNOW (John Schneider), IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT (Doug Stone), THE KEEPER OF THE STARS (Tracy Byrd, ACM song of the year). The song MEMPHIS BEAT first recorded by Jerry Lee Lweis in 1966 was the theme of the TNT hit cop show, MEMPHIS BEAT and also in 2014 voted the number one song out of the top 100 songs ever written anout Memphis. Lee has had numberous hits by many artists dating from the 60's to the present. 

In 1995, Dickey Lee was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters' Hall of Fame.
