About The Warfield
The Warfield opened in 1922 as a vaudeville theater, part of the Golden State Theatre chain, and quickly became a fixture of San Francisco’s entertainment scene.2 Architecturally, it features an ornate interior with marble columns, a grand staircase, and a hand-painted mural by Albert Herter, offering a blend of Beaux-Arts and classic movie palace design.
In 1979, the venue transitioned into a concert hall with a landmark performance by Bob Dylan, who played a 14-show residency.3 Over the decades, it has hosted icons such as Prince, David Bowie, and The Grateful Dead, the latter of whom recorded live albums Reckoning and Dead Set at the venue.4
