<?xml encoding="UTF-8">Libbey Bowl began with outdoor concerts in Ojai Civic Center Park, now Libbey Park. The Ojai Music Festival held its first outdoor concert there in 1952, using a temporary platform and canvas tarp for two concerts conducted by Thor Johnson.6 A permanent outdoor theater followed in 1954, and planning began for a permanent Bowl and Shell in 1955.6Completed in 1957 for $12,000, the Ojai Festival Bowl opened with the West Coast performance of Aaron Copland&rsquo;s The Tender Land, conducted by Copland himself.6 By the 1970s, it had become Libbey Bowl after Civic Park was renamed as Libbey Park.6
