Los Ángeles Azules were formed in the early 1980s by brothers Elías, José, and Jorge Mejía Avante. Inspired by the cumbia sonidera style emerging in Mexico, they combined traditional cumbia rhythms with romantic melodies and vocal harmonies on their 1982 debut album, Ritmo... Alegría... Sabor!, Vol. 1.²

After steadily building an audience through the 1980s and early 1990s, the group reached wider recognition with the 1996 album Inolvidables.
