He was raised in Staffordsville, a rural community in Johnson County.As a teenager, Stapleton taught himself to play the guitar and developed a love of songwriting. In 1996, he moved to Nashville to study biomedical engineering at Vanderbilt University. But his heart wasn&rsquo;t in it, and he dropped out and moved back home.For a few years, Chris played his music in bars while making extra cash from casual jobs.
