About Gorgon City

Genre
Dance / Electronic

Comprising Kye Gibbon and Matt Robson-Scott, Gorgon City have entrenched themselves in global club culture, offering a heady mix of big room house and underground bassline.

With 10 BRIT-certified singles including 1XPlatinum and 2x Gold and over 1.5 billion collective streams in their repertoire, the core values of Gorgon City stay uncompromised. The proof lies in their activity over the past year. Sold-out shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre (with a spring 2023 follow-update) LA’s The Shrine, a 16 week Ibiza Amnesia residency, a sold-out Printworks show and the release of latest single and bassline weapon ‘Sidewindah’ featuring celebrated MC Flirta-D. The track shot to number 1 on the official Beatport charts, and was later remixed by garage chart-topper Interplanetary Criminal. The duo have proven their music is equally fitting for sound systems of both open air arenas and underground raves.

In 2014, the pair introduced their high-concept, hard-hitting approach with the now UK GOLD-certified Sirens. The album’s ‘ancient futurist’ approach drew on classic club sounds and the new bass-heavy house music emerging from the UK’s clubs at the time (the ‘Gorgon’ in their name is also a nod to dancehall legend Ninjaman, and the influence of bassy sound system music on the pair’s signature style). Sirens was home to five top 20 singles–including the MNEK-featuring ‘Ready For Your Love’, which went to number four, became a timeless club anthem, and minted a new singing star in the process.

An intense period of global touring followed, incorporating DJ sets and full live shows ticked off bucket list with performances at Glastonbury, Coachella, The Warehouse Project, and Circus, as well as a residency at Ibiza’s Amnesia. Kye and Matt continued to work on new material during this period, squeezing in studio sessions between shows and working via laptops when on the go. The formation of record label, REALM, offered a space for the pair to explore more rugged, underground sounds, recently celebrating breakout hit ’Somebody To Love’ from Ben Kim with BBC Radio 1 and Kiss FM playlists. Meanwhile, the huge success of Gorgon City’s acid-leaning ‘Real Life’ collaboration with Duke Dumont and NAATIONS saw their star rising further and faster.

On their second album, Escape, Kye and Matt found a middle ground between the big-hearted energy of their debut and the upfront beats pushed on their own REALM imprint. The album also saw new names enter the Gorgon City fold, including UK rap and grime veteran D Double E. By now, the scale and staging of the pair’s live shows was getting bigger. Sold out dates at London’s Printworks and the Novo Theatre in Los Angeles sat among an extensive schedule of US and UK dates, as well as seasons in the Balearics–cementing Gorgon City’s status as one of the most consistent presences in the global club scene.

As the pair geared up to release a new album, a pause was overdue. Almost ten years had been whipped by in a whirlwind of parties and unexpected chart smashes. As much of the world went into lockdown, the pair took a moment to breathe. A regular slot on Kiss FM (having taken over the reins from Carl Cox) helped to keep them grounded and in touch with the glut of new music still being produced, as well as offering inspiration and providing a space for emerging talent to incubate within the Gorgon City REALM.

Olympia, Gorgon City’s third album, was as grand in scale and ambition as its title suggests. What began as a compact, 10-track project grew into an 18-track opus covering multiplemoods and movements. From the sultry slouch of ‘House Arrest’ with Soffi Tukker, to the big-room bridges and drops of the DRAMA-featuring ‘You’ve Done Enough’,each new addition to Olympia was both a symbol and product of the pair’s unbridled ambitions for what they wanted to be a big record in every way conceivable.

In 2023, Gorgon City released their fourth album, ‘Salvation’, which included hit singles ‘Voodoo’ and ‘Pose’. In the same year, their live shows took flight, with them headlining London’s Drumsheds, Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, a sold-out Brooklyn Mirage, their continued Ibiza residency and festival slots at Tomorrowland, Creamfields, Lollapalooza And more.

Their fifth album,‘Reverie’, is a club-focused 11-track body of work inspired by energy from their epic live shows. In the lead-up to its release on 19th July 2024, they’ve shared rip-roaring single ‘Biggest Regret’ ft. Bbyafricka, the catchy ‘You Know It’, a driving piano house anthem in ‘All That You Need’ ft. Caroline Byrne, the awe-inspiring sonic instrumental delight, ‘One New Change’, and the ethereal but bouncing ‘Breathe You In’ featuring NORTH. They’ve also delivered a raucous drum ‘n’ bass edit and a special ‘Drumsheds Version’ of ‘Biggest Regret’, providing new angles on its gritty focal bass synth sound.

Gorgon City made their DJ Mag HQ debut on the 17th July, and has revealed returning dates at Drumsheds and The Warehouse Project as part of a wider global tour for Q4. These follow incredible closing sets on the Lonely Hearts Club stage at Glastonbury and in the Yuma tent at Coachella in April.

Twelve years into the game, Gorgon City are delving even deeper into underground house and techno sounds, proving that, while they can create chart hits, they can also deliver for even the darkest of dancefloors
