Prince Royce’s Background
Born Geoffrey Royce Rojas in the Bronx, New York, Prince Royce grew up influenced by both Latin music and American pop.2 He was born one of four kids to Dominican parents and spent his summers in the Dominican Republic visiting his grandmother, where he was exposed to bachata and merengue.2 By the age of 14, he knew he wanted to become a singer, and at 16, he recorded in his first professional studio.2
His self-titled debut album, Prince Royce, released in 2010, marked a key turning point by introducing a new wave of bachata to a wider audience.2 It went on to reach the No. 1 position on both the Billboard Tropical and Latin Albums charts and was the best-selling Latin album of 2011 in the United States.2 The album’s success established him as an emerging artist in Latin music and set the foundation for his continued growth in both Spanish- and English-language markets.2
