Born and raised in Monticello, Georgia, Patricia Lynn Yearwood grew up with a deep love for music. After attending college and completing an internship at MTM Records, she took a job as a receptionist for the label while recording demo tapes and singing background vocals for other artists.1

It was during this time she connected with fellow rising artist Garth Brooks, who promised to help her secure a record deal once he found success. True to his word, Brooks introduced her to his producer, leading to a contract with MCA Nashville Records and the release of her blockbuster debut single, She's in Love with the Boy, in 1991.1
