About Ryman Auditorium

Built in 1892 by riverboat captain Thomas Ryman, the venue (then known as the Union Gospel Tabernacle) originally served as a gospel tabernacle before evolving into Nashville's most iconic stage.5 Renamed Ryman Auditorium in 1904, it hosted figures such as Booker T. Washington, Harry Houdini, and Katharine Hepburn in its early years. From 1943 to 1974, the Ryman became home to the Grand Ole Opry, solidifying its place in music history.5 Since then, everyone from Bob Dylan to Ringo Starr has played the Ryman, earning it a reputation as one of the most revered performance spaces in the world. In recognition of its cultural significance, the venue was named a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Landmark in 2022.6
