About The Stage at Suffolk Downs
The Stage at Suffolk Downs was once a historic horse racing track, and the stage is now situated in the infield of what was once the track.2 The horse track originally opened in 1931, and discussions to transform the closed track began in 2017.2
While the location was originally known for racing, it began hosting musical events while still an active racing track. It hosted a number of world-famous groups and performers, including The Beatles, Elvis Costello, The Jackson 5, and Radiohead.2
Suffolk Downs isn’t the first historic sporting venue that The Bowery, the group that renovated Suffolk Downs, has transformed.2 The group also previously restored Forest Hills Stadium, a tennis club in Queens that hosted the US Open in the 1960s and 1970s (and became a concert venue in 2013).2
