About Mammoth

GRAMMY® Award-nominated songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Wolfgang Van Halen continues to separate Mammoth from the pack. The music stands alone on a foundation anchored by his impressive sonic proficiency (across drums, bass, keys, and guitar) and airtight arena-size hooks with unforgettable vocals. He harbors an irresistible signature sound, inventive vision, and incomparable identity vaunted by a fervent global fanbase. For as unique as the music is, his story so far proves to be just as unprecedented. This is arguably the first hard rock act to genuinely break out from ground zero in the 2020’s, generating north of 100 million streams, toppling charts, and selling out headline tours less than five years since its debut. Back in 2021, Mammoth’s first offering, Mammoth WVH, took flight, bowing at #12 on the Billboard 200 and capturing #1 on three Billboard charts—Top Hard Rock Albums, Top Independent Albums, and Top Rock Albums. “Distance” soared as the first of two #1 Rock Radio Hits and earned a GRAMMY® Award nomination for “Best Rock Song.” Two years later, Mammoth II only saw him pick up the pace. It debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart in addition to bringing him back to #1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums Chart. It incited widespread applause from Rolling Stone, Guitar World, GRAMMY.com, Classic Rock, American Songwriter, and KERRANG! The band canvased the globe with Metallica and Pantera and supported Foo Fighters in North America as well as filling houses on their own. They performed on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel LIVE!, at MusiCares 2024 gala in honor of Jon Bon Jovi, and Wolf took the stage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® Induction of Ozzy Osbourne. Now, Wolfgang pushes forward on Mammoth’s third full-length LP.

Mammoth

Mammoth is the powerhouse rock project led by songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist Wolfgang Van Halen. Known for a signature sound that blends airtight arena-size hooks with complex sonic proficiency, the band has quickly separated itself from the pack to become a dominant force in modern hard rock.

Wolfgang famously performs all instruments (drums, bass, keys, and guitar) on the band’s studio recordings, showcasing a level of musicality that is rare in today's industry. With chart-topping albums and hundreds of millions of streams, Mammoth has stepped out from the shadow of legacy to forge a unique identity.1

Whether you’re a longtime follower or a new listener, you can score Mammoth tickets now on AXS and get ready for a high-energy night of music.

Mammoth’s Background

The origins of Mammoth are deeply rooted in rock history, as Wolfgang Van Halen initially formed the project while serving as the bassist for Van Halen alongside his father, Eddie Van Halen.

The name "Mammoth" serves as a tribute to the name his father’s band used before they became Van Halen.2

Originally launched as a solo outlet for Wolfgang’s songwriting, the project evolved into a full-fledged band following the release of the debut album Mammoth WVH in 2021.1 While Wolfgang handles all instrumentation in the studio, he assembled a formidable live lineup to bring the music to the stage.

In 2025, the group officially shortened their name from Mammoth WVH to simply Mammoth, signaling a new era of confidence and established identity.2

Mammoth’s Awards

Wolfgang Van Halen’s project garnered immediate critical acclaim and industry recognition upon its debut. The band quickly amassed accolades that highlighted both commercial success and artistic merit. Notable achievements include:

  • GRAMMY Award Nomination (2022): The breakout single Distance earned a nomination for Best Rock Song, validating Wolfgang’s songwriting prowess right out of the gate.¹
  • Billboard Chart Success (2020): The debut album Mammoth WVH secured the #1 spot on three separate Billboard charts: Top Hard Rock Albums, Top Independent Albums, and Top Rock Albums
  • Loudwire Music Awards (2025): The band received a nod in 2025 for The End as a #1 Rock Song, cementing their status as a fixture on airwaves across the country.3

Mammoth’s Biggest Hits

Mammoth’s discography is defined by emotional depth and heavy, driving instrumentation. Their catalog includes multiple chart-toppers that have resonated with fans globally. Key releases include:

  • Mammoth WVH (2015): The self-titled debut album featured the massive hit Distance, a moving tribute to Wolfgang’s father that topped rock radio charts and introduced the world to his vocal range.4
  • Mammoth II (2023): This sophomore release propelled the band further, debuting in the Top 5 of the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart (Number 1 on the Top Hard Rock Albums chart) and featuring high-energy tracks that expanded their sonic palette.4,5
  • The End (2025): This album marked a significant evolution in the band's sound, coinciding with their name change and further solidifying their place in rock history.4
