Best known for her generation-defining and fan-favorite roles which have garnered Emmy and Golden Globe nominations, Alicia Silverstone continues to be a notable fixture in the acting and activism communities.
Alicia recently wrapped production on Yorgos Lanthimos’ upcoming film BUGONIA, where she will star alongside Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons in a story that follows two conspiracy-obsessed young men who kidnap the high-powered CEO of a major company, convinced that she is an alien intent on destroying planet Earth. The film will be distributed by Focus Features and will be released in select theaters on October 24th before expanding nationwide on October 31st.
Up next, Alicia will be seen starring in PRETTY THING, an erotic thriller from director Justin Kelly, set to release in theaters on July 4th.The film follows a successful executive who faces escalating obsession from a scorned lover who takes his obsession too far.
Alicia is also upcoming in IRISH BLOOD, which she produced as well. The show is set to release in August and tells the story of a hot-shot Los Angeles divorce lawyer who receives a letter from her estranged father which sends her on a mission to uncover the mystery of his disappearance.
Later this year, Alicia will be seen starring in the Netflix holiday film A MERRY LITTLE EX-MAS, where she also served as an executive producer. In this festive drama, Alicia plays one half of a recently separated couple trying to make one last Christmas with their kids before she moves and starts fresh, but complications arise when her ex brings his new girlfriend into the mix. The film will be released worldwide on the platform in late 2025.
It was recently announced that Alicia is set to reprise her iconic role as Cher Horowitz in a CLUELESS sequel series at Peacock that will serve as a follow-up to the cult classic film. Alicia will also serve as an executive producer on the show, alongside Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weiss who will also serve as writers.
In 2023, Silverstone starred in Grant Singer’s Reptile, teaming up with former co-star Benicio Del Toro and Justin Timberlake for Netflix. The thriller follows Nichols (Del Toro), a hardened New England detective, in his endless pursuit of a case that begins to unravel the illusions of his own life. The film made it’s World Premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and then was released on the platform shortly after. Silverstone also starred in Mustache with Hasan Minhaj; the film premiered at the 2023 SXSW Film Festival and won the Audience Award, as well as Jennifer Reeder’s horror Perpetrator which made its World Premiere at the 2023 Berlin Film Festival and will make its US debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Other recent film projects include Yorgos Lanthimos’ acclaimed thriller, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, starring Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman; Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul; Book Club alongside Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, and Candice Bergen; The Lodge opposite Riley Keough and Richard Armitage, Bad Therapy, an adaptation of Nancy Doyne’s novel opposite Rob Corddry, Sister of the Groom, for which she was also an executive producer, Last Survivor and The Requin.
In television, Silverstone’s credits include Ryan Murphy’s acclaimed American Horror Stories, Netflix’s Masters of the Universe: Revelation and the family drama The Baby-Sitter’s Club, a live-action contemporary take of Ann M. Martin’s best-selling book series; American Woman, based on the life of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills producer Kyle Richards, ABC’s Suburgatory, NBC’s Miss Match—for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination—and ABC Family's animated Braceface.
Silverstone made her feature film debut in 1993 as “Adrienne Forrester” in The Crush, playing a teenage girl who sets out to ruin an older man after he spurns her affections; she won two MTV Movie Awards for the role—Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Villain.
After seeing her in The Crush, Marty Callner cast Silverstone in Aerosmith’s music videos for “Cryin’,” “Amazing,” and “Crazy.” The success of those videos helped Silverstone get noticed by filmmaker Amy Heckerling, who offered her the lead role of Cher in Clueless. Clueless became a sleeper hit and critical darling during the summer of 1995. Silverstone's performance earned her a National Board of Review Award for Best Breakthrough Performer, the MTV Movie Awards for Best Female Performance and Most Desirable Female, and the American Comedy Award for Funniest Actress in a Motion Picture.
From there, Silverstone became a household name and was seen playing ‘Batgirl’ in Batman & Robin opposite George Clooney; she starred alongside Benicio del Toro and Christopher Walken in the dark comedy Excess Baggage, which she also produced. Her other film credits include Beauty Shop opposite Queen Latifah; Blast from the Past opposite Brendan Fraser, Kenneth Branagh’s film adaptation of Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost: Stormbreakers with Mickey Rourke and Ewan McGregor; Le nouveau monde alongside James Gandolfini; Global Heresy; Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed; Hideaway with Jeff Goldblum; and Scorched with Woody Harrelson and John Cleese.
In 2009, Silverstone released her first book, “The Kind Mama: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet.” The New York Times bestseller describes Silverstone's journey toward a more conscious way of eating and reveals how it has made her feel better than she ever thought possible. The book is filled with personal anecdotes, motivational tips, and nearly 100 delicious recipes.
Silverstone’s second book, “The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Supercharged Fertility, a Radiant Pregnancy, a Sweeter Birth, and a Healthier, More Beautiful Beginning," hit stores on April 15, 2014. Published by Rodale Books, “The Kind Mama” is a comprehensive and practical guide empowering woman to take charge of their fertility, pregnancy, and first 6 months with baby. Silverstone also founded the Mykind Organics vitamin line, which is the first ever food-based, organic, non-GMO vegan vitamin.
