About Die Fantastischen Vier

Genre
Hip Hop / Rap

Die Fantastischen Vier trace their roots to 1987, when Michael Schmidt (Smudo) and Andreas Rieke (And.Ypsilon) formed the Terminal Team in Stuttgart. Inspired by American hip-hop pioneers including Run DMC, the Beastie Boys, and Public Enemy, the group initially performed in English before committing to German.

When Michael Beck (Michi Beck) and Thomas Dürr (Thomas D) joined in 1989, they took the name Die Fantastischen Vier and focused on adapting hip-hop for a native German audience. The 1992 breakthrough of Die Da?! established them as architects of mainstream German rap, and in 1996, they founded their own label, Four Music, to maintain creative independence.1
