About TiaCorine
Genre
Hip Hop / Rap
TiaCorine is an innovative and genre-bending artist who’s exploded out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina thanks to her eclectic style and captivating sound which combines elements of Hip-Hop, Alternative Rock, and Pop music. Tia first broke out in 2020 with the release of her single “Lotto” (18M+ streams). She soon rolled “Lotto” into her first EP, 34Corine, which also featured standout track “Mine” and quickly garnered critical acclaim. After seeing the EP’s success, Tia followed up with an extended version, The Saga of 34Corine, adding 5 new tracks including pivotal record “Luigi” (feat. Kenny Beats). Before long, her first project quickly earned her cosigns from a diverse array of artists including SZA, A$AP Rocky, Rico Nasty, and Mike Epps. Last year, TiaCorine released her highly-anticipated debut full-length, I Can’t Wait, which included viral track “FreakyT” (18M+ streams), honing her one-of-a-kind sound and cementing herself as a major name in rap.
With musical influences ranging from Luther Vandeross and Sade to Avril Lavigne and Nicki Minaj, TiaCoine’s taste in music is as diverse as her background. Her biological father is half Black and Japanese and her mother is Shoshone, Native American. Primarily raised by her mother and stepfather, Tia was introduced to music from an early age. Initially to the pop and rock sounds of the ’60s and 70’s by her mother as well as to bands like Earth, Wind & Fire and others from the 70’s and 80’s by her stepfather, but also to the Top 40’s pop sounds of the mid-to-late-90’s, heard blasting through the speakers of her local roller rink. Tia later joined the choir, sang at high school basketball games, and began recording music with her friends after enrolling at the Winston-Salem HBCU. Her first inspiration on the mic came from Nicki Minaj who Tia admired for her multifaceted music and personality as well as for her stature as a female rapper in the then male dominated landscape. Other inspirations came from artists like PARTYNEXTDOOR and The Weeknd who would eventually influence the dreamy and ethereal sounds of her own music. However, Tia had to put a momentary pause on her educational and musical endeavors after she unexpectedly became pregnant and gave birth to her daughter Zöe. This was a difficult time for Tia who had to learn to balance being a new mother with going to school full-time, working 40 hours a week, and pursuing her dreams as a recording artist, but it inspired her to double down on making a career for herself in music.
TiaCorine released her first video in 2018, for the song “Cabbage” ft. OG Spliff. The track started getting heavy circulation in Winston-Salem, encouraging Tia to continue going. The next song Tia put out ended up being her viral hit, “Lotto” later in 2018. The song generated serious momentum with spins on 102 JAMZ, immediately boosting Tia’s notoriety. Soon after, a TikTok posted from Glucose Baby featuring the song exploded in popularity and elevated Tia’s music to a national audience with the numbers rising at an uncontrollable rate—Tia had struck gold. Tia continued recording music and performing anywhere she could in hopes of getting her name ringing in the industry, a strategy that worked in her favor after she was noticed by Marcel “Flip” Holmes who would eventually become her manager and sign her to South Coast Music Group.
The next few months, TiaCorine and her team were hard at work curating her new project. During this time, superproducer Kenny Beats reached out inquiring about making music next time she was in Los Angeles. When they finally linked up, they made the song “Luigi”, which eventually became a key record in Tia’s career. Next, she set out to create visuals that were as eclectic and out of the box as her music. Their working relationship and friendship has only grown since then, with Kenny bringing Tia out as the special guest at his sold out Don’t Over Think Shit show in Los Angeles in 2021. Tia has always put a unique stress on making sure the visuals to her work match the creativity of her music, so she worked hand-in-hand with Jason Joyride to combine her inspirations from anime, Quentin Tarantino films, and Tyler, The Creator to craft her videos. Being a single mother, Tia also brings her daughter to a majority of her shoots, so she wants to set an example of leaning into creativity and artistry rather than being strictly provocative. In September of 2020, Tia finally released her EP, 34CORINE,with tracks including "Forever", "In My Room" and "Avril Lavigne'', a punchy homage to the pop-punk icon of her teenage years. She followed this up with a deluxe edition of the project titled
The Sage of 34CORINE which featured superstar DaBaby on “Lotto (Part 2)” and production from Bankroll Got It as well as Kenny Beats.
In 2022, she delivered her long-awaited debut album I Can’t Wait, met with critical praise and even named in the “50 Best Albums of 2022” by Audiomack. The album is a musical concoction of Tia's long line of influences — from pop-punk laced tracks like "Rockstar" that could serve as the soundtrack to a rousing mosh-pit, to stirring, rage-inspired songs like "Kite" and soulful, R&B-flavored cuts like "You're Fired". On I Can't Wait, Tia also reunites with frequent collaborator and high-end producer Kenny Beats on "Chaka Khan" — a track that's chock full of comical one-liners, flawless flows and a classic-old school feel. Shortly after the project's release, the album's third track, "FreakyT", took on a life of its own as a clear cut fan favorite. After Tia teased a snippet of the song's video—which features a Duke Deuce cameo—on TikTok, the track went viral, leaving fans clamoring for the release. At the end of the year, “FreakyT” was included in Pitchfork’s “A Chaotic List of the Best Rap Stars, Scenes, Trends, Freestyles, and Mixtapes of 2022”. Today, "FreakyT" has racked up over 16 million streams, catapulting Tia from cult favorite to international superstar and setting her up for a record breaking year in 2023. So far, Tia has been named as an artist to watch in 2023 by Rolling Stone, Pigeons & Planes, Zane Lowe, PopSugar, OkayPlayer, Our Generation Music, and One37PM and is gearing up to release more music and perform at the upcoming Rolling Loud 2023 festival in Los Angeles.
