In 2001, a film adaptation of Moulin Rouge released and became a pop culture hit. Directed by Baz Luhrmann, the movie received numerous awards and nominations, winning the Academy Awards for Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction in 2002.4,6

The theatrical production debuted in 2019 and features elements of the popular film, with additional songs and dance performances.7 Since its Broadway debut, the production has received multiple awards, including 10 Tony Awards and a win for Best Musical at the 74th Tony Awards in 2021.8
