Morat

Morat is a pop and folk quartet from Bogotá, Colombia, consisting of four childhood friends: Juan Pablo Villamil, Juan Pablo Isaza, Martín Vargas Morales, and Simón Vargas Morales.¹

Their music blends pop Spanish music with the Americana sounds of the banjo for a unique sound that has helped make them internationally popular.¹

The four members of Morat grew up together in Bogotá and decided to pursue music together seriously in high school. They held their first practices on a farm in Colombia's countryside called “La Morat,” which gave their group its name.² The group got its start playing in bars and nightclubs in Bogotá before making its debut in a studio.²

All four musicians are self-taught and have said they relied more on YouTube videos than on formal lessons to hone their craft, particularly on the banjo, an instrument not common in Colombia.²

Morat released their debut single in 2015, with Mi Nuevo Vicio.¹

During their rise to fame, Morat has been nominated for a number of awards.

• Latin Grammy Award - Best Pop/Rock Album (2025): Morat took home their first Grammy in 2025 for their album, Ya Es Mañana.³
• Latin Grammy Award – Best New Artist Nominee (2016): Morat earned this nomination at the start of their career.³
• Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, Mexico - Favorite Latin Artist or Group Nominee (2018): The group was nominated for this award as well as the award for Favorite Collaboration for their song, Besos en Guerra with artist Juanes.³

Morat has had several hits throughout their career.

• Me Toca a Mi (2025): This popular pop song hit number one on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart, the group’s first number one hit on any Billboard chart.⁴
• Yo Contigo, Tu Conmigo (2016): This collaboration with Alvaro Soler has been streamed more than 570k times on SoundCloud.⁵
• Ya Es Mañana (2025): This popular album earned the group their first Latin Grammy Award.³

Morat’s often sold-out shows blend big energy with soulful lyrics, leaving audiences singing and dancing.⁶ Their concerts are so popular that they booked three consecutive nights at the GNP Seguros Stadium in Mexico City for their 2024 tour.⁶
