Jon Batiste

Jon Batiste is an American musician, composer, arranger, and singer who draws from New Orleans jazz, funk, and rhythm and blues, carrying those sounds into work that crosses albums, film, and live performance.¹

His career has taken him through a variety of spaces, but he’s widely known for his role as the bandleader and musical director for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert from 2015 to 2022.¹

He has performed in more than 40 countries and headlined at major venues including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and The Kennedy Center.²

Jon Batiste was born on November 11, 1986, in Metairie, Louisiana. He comes from a celebrated lineage of New Orleans musicians, and was surrounded by music from an early age. He began performing with the Batiste Brothers Band at age eight, starting on drums before moving to piano.^1,2

Jon Batiste graduated from the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts in 2004, then continued at Juilliard in New York City. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies in 2008 and a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies in 2011.^1,2

His first album, Times in New Orleans, arrived in 2005.¹ Early releases also included Live In New York: At The Rubin Museum Of Art, The Amazing Jon Batiste! EP, and In The Night EP.²
