Watch: Nas and Jack White cover blues song from 1928 in clip from 'American Epic'

PBS recently released a clip of the upcoming series on the early days of recorded sound, “American Epic.” Jack White, T Bone Burnett and Robert Redford executive produced the three-part documentary series, recording project and feature film. In the clip, Jack White and hip-hop legend Nas team up for a cover of the Memphis Jug Band’s “On the Road Again,” which was released in 1928. The clip also features commentary from Nas, who points out the deep connection that hip-hop has with the blues. You can check out the video above.

As Pitchfork pointed out, the “American Epic” documentary series is set to premiere May 16 on PBS, while the “American Epic Sessions” concert film will debut June 6 on PBS. The documentary was directed by Bernard MacMahon and also features appearances by Sir Elton John, Willie Nelson, Beck, Steve Martin and more.

Jack White’s Third Man Records along with Legacy Recordings will be releasing the music from the series in a 100-song box set titled American Epic: The Collection as well as an album called American Epic: The Soundtrack. Both are set for release Friday, May 12. American Epic: The Sessions will come out June 9 after the premiere of the concert film via Columbia Records.
