About Anfield Stadium

Anfield was built in 1884 and became the permanent home of Liverpool Football Club in 1892.1 Over the decades, it has hosted numerous league title celebrations that form a defining part of the club’s identity. The stadium’s famous Kop Stand, originally built in 1906, became synonymous with the club’s loyal fan support. It’s known as the 12th man section for the team’s most dedicated supporters and holds 12,850 people.7

The most significant recent redevelopments came with the expansion of the Main Stand in 2016 and the Anfield Road Stand redevelopment completed in 2024, increasing the capacity to over 61,000.8 These modern upgrades preserve the stadium’s historic character while enhancing facilities for supporters and athletes alike.
