About Alexandra Palace
Alexandra Palace opened in 1873 as a public entertainment complex designed to bring recreation and culture to London residents.8 Just 16 days after opening, a fire destroyed the building, but it reopened in 1875 and soon became a popular destination for festivals, performances, and public gatherings.8
The venue also played an important role in broadcasting history. In the 1930s, Alexandra Palace became home to the BBC’s first regular high-definition television service, helping pioneer early television broadcasting.8
Over the decades, Alexandra Palace has hosted concerts, sporting events, exhibitions, and community celebrations, including major fixtures like the World Darts Championship tournament alongside large-scale concerts and multi-artist music events.
