Rush’s Background
Rush formed in August 1968 in Willowdale, Toronto, Canada.1,2 The original lineup featured Alex Lifeson, Jeff Jones, and John Rutsey, but Jones was quickly replaced by Geddy Lee on vocals and bass.1 A major change occurred in 1974 after their self-titled debut album: Rutsey left, and lyricist and drummer Neil Peart joined.1
This trio, Lee, Lifeson, and Peart, became the legendary core, anchoring the band's profoundly influential career as one of rock's most enduring and venerated ensembles.1 Following Peart's passing in 2020, the surviving duo reconvened in 2026, welcoming new drummer Anika Nilles.2
