Superstar girl group Little Mix holds the distinction of being the only group to even take home “The X Factor UK” title. The wildly popular girls have amassed a huge international fan base since their 2011 victory and they came back home this week to serve up a world exclusive live debut performance of their latest single “Shout Out to My Ex” on “The X Factor UK” stage during the results show which aired in the U.S. on Oct. 17.
They smashed the upbeat song, which takes a coy lyrical stab at an ex-lover. Jade Thirlwall, Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jesy Nelson brought down the house and drove all four judges to their feet in applause. They owned the stage during the sassy number and clearly wouldn’t have it any other way. Girls facing messy breakups can find some great empowerment in the track and that’s one of the reasons their fans love them. They're not going to let some heartbreaking guy get them down -- and neither should anyone else.
Despite their meteoric rise to fame, Little Mix cherish their roots. Nelson gave big props to “The X Factor” platform when host Dermot O’Leary chatted with her after the performance. She said, “It’s amazing. We feel so lucky to be here. We wouldn’t have been where we are except for ‘X Factor.’” She’s right, Little Mix is one of several UK success stories spawned from the popular reality singing competition. They emerged right after 2010 third place “X Factor UK” finalists One Direction took the boy band world by storm and officially became the biggest act to hail from “The X Factor” franchise.
Nelson also offered up some sage advice to this season’s remaining Top 10 hopefuls telling O’Leary, “They need to enjoy it for what it is, bring it every week and just have fun.”
Returning girl group contenders Four of Diamonds and their fellow competitors are probably dreaming of even a fraction of the success Little Mix has enjoyed. The race is tighter than it’s ever been. But, one act will definitely win a recording contract and a shot at making a music career dream come true. Will “The X Factor UK” launch another superstar this season? We’ll have to wait and see.
