The lede for the 2013 Pittsburgher Gourmet Burger Competition was “[Participants] Coming in with empty stomachs and timid emotions--leaving with satisfied faces and high expectations for the year to come” was perhaps a little dramatic – I don’t know anyone who walks into a food soiree possessing (redundant) “timid emotions” - but I digress, as 2013’s Pittsburgher produced a Best of the ‘Burg Burger, raised attendees’ glucose levels, and set toes a’tappin’ to excellent music.
Last year’s spectacle also set the bar for an even bigger, better bash for 2014, which will again be held on the Rivers Casino’s front lawn. Tickets are $40.00, and for that entry fee, you’ll have a sample of every gourmet burger in the competition, great, local music and one Amstel Light. The showdown is scheduled for Saturday, Sept 13 between 2 – 7 p.m., with judging of the burgers occurring during the event.
As of today, the current 2014 Pittsburgher participants are as follows:
Cain’s Saloon (Dormont)
Courthouse Tavern (Downtown)
Dive Bar & Grille (Wexford)
Donato’s (Fox Chapel) who will be participating with their Certified Piedmontese Burger. This gorgeous amalgamation of flavors includes American cheese, Benton's bacon, applewood-smoked bacon jam, sliced heirloom tomatoes & truffled mayo.
Gus’s Cafe (Lawrenceville)
Kings Hometown Grille (Neville Island)
Latitude 360 (Robinson)
Rivers Casino (North Shore)
Rumfish Grille (Bridgeville)
In addition to all of the mange and imbibing you will be doing, also prepare your ears for the melodies of the following musical acts:
DJ Enn Era
DJ Rick Diculous
The Ginger Beards
Shannon and the Merger
