Metal stalwarts Sevendust delivered a typically blistering set early in the day on the main stage at Day One of Rock on the Range (ROTR) Friday afternoon. This was the Atlantans’ fourth visit to the annual festival, having previously played the festival in 2008, 2010, and 2013 and the fans let their appreciation show with an enthusiastic response throughout their set. Vocalist Lajon Witherspoon seemed genuinely moved by the warmth the band received from the dense, metal-hungry crowd.

Always a quality band, Sevendust has survived the nu-metal tag they were labelled with early in their career, and have gone on to produce album after album of rock solid metal, many of which have gone gold. They have sort of a blue collar, regular guy kind of persona which makes them come across as hard working and humble. But it’s their musical chops that have gotten them this far, and those were on fine display on the main stage. The band burned through tracks like “Thank You,” “Death Dance,” and “Face to Face” like the pros they are, and the crowd warmly welcomed it all.
