Valentine’s Day is a good reminder to show affection to our loved ones. It does not have to be a forced holiday if you take the time to make it personal. Some of the nearby activities may inspire you to plan a creative romantic event. Consider the surrounding locations close to San Antonio that are within reach to set the mood.
Restful wine tour
Select a “Bed and breakfast” location near Wimberley, Texas. This only takes about an hour long drive north of San Antonio and places you close to the Texas Wine Trail. The Hill Country is a relaxing setting for a picnic or hiking and several winery locations can be found close to Dripping Springs. One favorite place is Mt. Gainor Inn with typical Texas charm and a casual atmosphere. Plan your wine tasting tour around the area.
Make a beach trip to Port Aransas. The ocean is always a romantic setting and Port A is only a couple of hours drive. Take a beach walk together or make a dinner reservation at a late night café. Look for a beach cottage or seaside hotel to spend the night so that it puts you close to the ocean. Get your toes in the sand, listen to the sea gulls and relax for the weekend. There are lots of water activities to look for such as windsurfing or jet skiing.
Weekend in Austin
A change of scenery for just a short drive of about 2 hours puts you in a fun mood to explore the parks and shops of Austin. Plan to rent a canoe or kayak for the day on Towne Lake or fly kites at Zilker Park. There is a botanical garden at the park also. Or make a evening of walking 6th Street to hear the live bands.
The downtown Austin area is a perfect location to stay because it makes it easy for a walking trip to all the activities nearby.
If you only have one night to splurge on a luxury, plan your romantic night at the Hotel Contessa in San Antonio. It puts you downtown near the River Walk and the hotel offer all the spa pampering at the Woodhouse Day Spa. You can plan a restful retreat together with a short drive from home.
