If there’s one word to describe Metallica, their history, their fans, and their head-banging music, it could easily be hardwired. Coincidentally, that’s exactly what the name of their new album and their tenth studio LP will be called when it’s released on November 18. Announced on Thursday, Hardwired…To Self-Destruct, will be a double LP will feature a lengthy eighty-minutes of new material over twelve songs on two CDs, two vinyl discs, or just one extra large file size. The album will be the band’s first project of new material since 2008’s Death Magnetic.
The new album will also include the option for a third disc for those who buy the deluxe edition, which includes fourteen additional tracks capturing the riff origins from songs on the album.
On Thursday Metallica also released the first single and its accompanying music video for the opening track from the album, appropriately titled “Hardwired.” Metallica has always had a knack for naming their heavy rock songs. From “Ride the Lightening” to “Damage, Inc.,” James and the boys always know how to capture the intensity of their music within one or two words. With twelve new songs for fans to choose from, it’s only fair to go ahead and rank the song titles before their corresponding music is available, because that’s fair right? Nope, but it’s pretty metal.
Here are the new songs from their upcoming album, ranked on a scale from heavy and epic, to broken spirit of Dave Mustaine post-firing:
01. Now That We’re Dead
02. Moth Into Flame
03. Halo On Fire
04. Spit Out The Bone
05. Atlas, Rise!
06. Am I Savage?
08. Dream No More
09. Here Comes Revenge
10. Murder One
Here’s an additional fun fact for all the true metal heads: if you average out the length of the twelve songs over an eighty-minute album, you get the duration of 6.66 minutes per song. Coincidence? That’s up to the gods of metal to decide.
