Playhouse Square presents controversial Australian comedian, Jim Jefferies

Jim Jefferies is a stand-up comedian, actor and writer who originally hails from Australia. He first came to be noticed following an on stage attack at the Manchester Comedy Store in 2008 of which he incorporated into his act at the time. In the States he has done a series of popular specials for HBO that began with his controversial and belief-challenging special “I Swear to God” in 2009. His follow-up special “Alcoholocaust” was broadcast on Showtime with his “Fully Functional” special being shown on EPIX in 2012.

It was also in the year of 2012 that he started a podcast twice a week with fellow comedian and friend Eddie Ifft but he left the project in December of that year due to schedule conflicts with the filming of his television series “Legit”.

“Legit” premiered on Jan. 17, 2013 on FX and garnered positive attention for its portrayal of people who have overcome physical and mental handicaps. The show ran for two seasons before being cancelled in 2014.

In the course of his career, Jim has honed his skills at numerous festivals including the Edinburgh Fringe, the Montreal comedy Festival, the South African Comedy Festival in Cape Town, the Reading and Leeds Festivals as well as the Glastonbury Festival. He has also appeared on numerous British comedy panel shows as well as numerous Comedy Central shows including The World Stands Up, Comedy Blue and Edinburgh and Beyond. His latest project has been to star in a low budget Australian feature film titled “Me and My Mates vs. the Zombie Apocalypse” that wrapped up filming in Feb. of 2014. As of late, he has hit the road to tour and has enjoyed sold out audiences at venues all around the world including the United States, Canada, the UK and Australia.

On Sept. 11, 2015 at 8 p.m. Jim Jefferies will be bringing his new live tour “Freedumb” to Playhouse Square’s Ohio Theatre. Tickets for the show will go on sale this Friday, March 20, 2015 at noon.
