There were more than a few emotional moments at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards last night, but none were more powerful than Celine Dion’s Icon Award acceptance speech. Following a performance of Queen’s 1991 song “The Show Must Go On,” Dion received the Billboard Icon Award, a prestigious honor awarded only to a handful of stars. However, it wasn’t the award that got Dion so emotional, but the person who presented it: Her 15-year-old son René-Charles.

"They said, 'To present the award, here's your son' … and [it] cut my heart to pieces. [It] really did," Dion told People backstage at the show. Watch the emotional moment below.

Emotions ran high for Dion because she’s still just months removed from the death of her husband René Angélil, who passed earlier this year after a long battle with cancer. Celine dedicated the award to her late husband during her emotional acceptance speech.

Speaking with People, Celine said that Angélil, who also served as her manager, is a big part of why she’s had such a successful career.

"Honestly, my husband got me here 30-something years later. I accepted that award for him. I sang that song for him," she said.
