U.K. singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding premiered the music video for "Army" on Jan. 14. She dedicates the black-and-white clip to her best friend and fans,
"Army" is the latest single from Goulding's album, Delirium. The heartfelt song follows her telling tune, "On My Mind." In a note released with the "Army" music video, Ellie acknowledged the need to write about the positive forces in her life on top of the not-so-positive ones.
"I realised that I had focused a lot of writing on past relationships and it hit me I had never written about my best friend," Goulding wrote about the song. "Two girls from Hereford trying our best in the City. We open our hearts up and take risks, but together we are more powerful than ever."
Goulding penned "Army" with the likes of pop hit-maker Max Martin. She returns to the more meaningful numbers of her past records, detailing the lasting bond shared with her best friend throughout the years. "Dark times, you could always find the bright side / I'm amazed by the things that you would sacrifice," Ellie sings atop booming beats and light synths. "Army" stands as the most powerful release from Delirium yet armed with a soaring performance by Goulding.
The black-and-white music video for "Army" opens with a handwritten note from Goulding dedicating it to her friend, Hannah, and the fans. Both ladies are shown having a blast on the road with each other and other friends. Instead of a fabricated music video story, this raw clip highlights the real happiness Ellie feels surrounded by her loved ones.
"Army" is now available on iTunes and Apple Music. Goulding's next single in the U.S. will reportedly be "Something in the Way You Move."
