The second weekend of the repeating Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival kicked off on Friday in Indio, Calif. Like the first weekend, the second week of the festival featured a slew of major headliners and surprise guests. The biggest surprise guest appearance during the second day of the festival was Green Day front-man Billie Joe Armstrong, who took the stage with 1980s indie icons The Replacements. Hitting the stage on the fourth song, Armstrong performed nearly the entire set with the band in what he dubbed "a dream come true." Headliner Outkast performed sans guests this weekend (Janelle Monáe and Future guested last week), while UK hit maker Ellie Goulding drew one of the largest crowds on the festival's main stage.
Other performers on the first day of the second week of the festival included: The Knife, Broken Bells, , Chromeo, HAIM, Neko Case, AFI, Martin Garrix, Bonobo, Bryan Ferry, The Afghan Whigs, The Cult, Bastille, Flume, Aloe Blacc, Jagwar Ma, A$AP Ferg, Grouplove, Woodkid, Carnage, Shlomo, Gareth Emery, Michael Brun, MS MR, Kate Nash, Hot Since 82, Damian Lazarus, GOAT, Nina Kraviz, Anthony Green, Duke Dumont, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Solomun, ZZ Ward, Anti-Flag, Caravan Palace, Flatbush Zombies, Deorro, Waxahatchee, Title Fight, Davide Squillace, DJ Falcon, Dum Dum Girls, Austra, Tom Odell, Dixon, Wye Oak, Crosses, Mako, The Preatures, The Bots and Gabba Gabba Heys.
